Twice as expensive as the Chinese imported tilapia, Kenyan fishermen from villages around Lake Victoria had a hard time selling their fish. However, for the past two weeks, their sales have increased up to 40% because the population is wary of buying Chinese products. With the restrictions to circulation of goods worldwide, imported fish is also becoming scarce.
While the scarcity of tilapia is benefiting local fishermen, the risk is that they will not be able to meet the increased food needs of the population.
