No caminho para a costa da Guiné Bissau

a portrait of West African artisanal fisheries value chain

African artisanal fisheries encompass much more than the capture sector. From sea to plate, many actors intervene throughout the value chain providing livelihoods and food to many.

With almost 2 million inhabitants and a GDP per capita of 740$USD, Guinea-Bissau is one of the poorest countries in the world. The countries’ waters are believed to have the richest biodiversity in West Africa. The fisheries sector employs over 225,000 people, contributes to 6% of the GDP and provides 35% of the animal protein intake of Bissau Guineans.
